Day 65: Psalm 11:1

"I trust in the Lord for protection. So why do you say to me, 'Fly like a bird to the mountains for safety?'" ~Psalm 11:1 NLT

"I trust in the Lord for protection." Kinda sounds like a mantra... repeat it until ya believe it! I can just hear the disbelief in David's voice as he says the second half of the verse. He trusts in the LORD! What safety does a mere mountain provide in comparison with the Lord's faithfulness? How about the Lord's unfailing love?

I believe there's a Jesus Culture song called "Our God Never Fails." I know that the things of the earth fail. My notes fail me during a test. The speed of my handwriting fails me in class. I fail myself and others all the time. My computer fails when I NEED that research paper. But God never fails. And that's why David scoffs the idea of fleeing to a mountain, when he's got God.

Sometimes though, I've noticed that God can use earthly things. My parents fail, sometimes. But God is still with them. I can trust in my parents to a certain degree, because God is in them, because God is using them to parent me. God sometimes can give earthly things to help us - health, money, a house, a plane-ticket. God will use all sorts of tools, but as long as we trust in Him and give Him the glory when it's all said and done, then we're on the right track.
