Day 180: Deuteronomy 33:27

"The eternal God is your refuge, and his everlasting arms are under you. He drives out the enemy before you; he cries out, ‘Destroy them!’" ~Deuteronomy 33:27, NLT

Moses is blessing the tribes of Israel before he dies, and in this passage he's blessing the tribe of Asher. A blessing, in this sense, is like a prophecy and a call to action. In v26 Moses describes God as "riding across the skies to help" them, and then he goes on to the above v27. Now after Moses died, you have to realize that the Israelites geared up to go to war with the sinful nations in their Promised Land. God was using the Israelites to punish those nations, and this is the only reason why God cries "Destroy them!" as a command.

God doesn't want us to decimate our human enemies, but He does want to be our refuge like He was for the tribe of Asher. The only enemies God has left to destroy are Satan and his armies, and those who have died and did not accept God's gift before their death. His command to destroy applied to the Israelites, His desire to be number one in our lives remains.

Will you let Him?
