Daniel had been praying to God for about 3 weeks about a matter very urgent to his heart. (Check out Daniel to see what!) God sent an angel to answer his prayer. Just one thing about angels, though: they're scary. So when Daniel saw the angel, you can imagine what his thoughts were.
As usual, the angel starts off with announcing that we don't need to be afraid. Generally, if an angel shows up in front you you, he's not there to hand mete out God's wrath. He's there to bring God's message, which in this case is be strong, and not be afraid. God's answer to your prayers is coming, even if it's not the one you expected. It's coming. Take courage.
